Connect Your Existing GPS Trackers to a Live Passenger Map

Already have GPS trackers fitted to your vehicles? AddTransit reads their positions and shows your passengers where the bus, ferry or train is — with no driver app and no second device.

You have already paid for the hardware. Today it tells your office where each vehicle is. AddTransit turns the same positions into information your passengers can use, so they can see for themselves when their ride will arrive.

What your passengers get

  • A live map on your website — embed it on any page and passengers see your vehicles moving along the route.
  • Live vehicle positions in Google Maps — shown with your timetable once your GTFS and GTFS-Realtime feeds are published and accepted by Google.
  • A GTFS-Realtime feed — the industry standard format, ready for journey planners and transit apps.

Which trackers can be connected?

Connected today: trackers that use the Key Telematics API, for example Kinesis Pro supplied through Radius. If that is your tracker, you can sign up and connect it yourself.

Using another brand? Tell us which one. If your tracker provider offers an API, we will check it and confirm whether it can be connected.

How it works

  1. Subscribe to Vehicle Tracking and add your vehicles in AddTransit.
  2. Open Tracking Setup in your account (log in as an account admin; it needs the Vehicle Tracking subscription) and paste the API key from your tracker provider. The key is stored encrypted and is only used to read your vehicles' positions.
  3. Turn on live tracking for your feed. Each tracker is matched to a vehicle by its registration or name, and positions then update about once a minute.

  Connecting your own trackers is part of the Vehicle Tracking plan, and there is no setup fee when you connect them yourself in Tracking Setup. Prefer us to do it for you? That is a paid setup, quoted before any work starts. No trackers fitted? Your drivers can use the free AddTransit driver app instead.
